Capturing the raw beauty of Alberta's wilderness and the captivating presence of its wildlife, this exceptional piece was photographed in the remote northern expanses of Alberta’s Willmore Wilderness.
The photo came to life as Ken, renowned for his immersive exploration and profound connection with nature, was drawn into the depth of a fog-filled forest by the distinct sound of a large animal splashing through the wetland. Following the sound, he came across a hidden meadow graced by the presence of a majestic grizzly bear. It was this serendipitous moment that brought forth the creation of "Grizzly Meadows."
Choosing to use his wide-angle lens to encapsulate the expansive scene, Ken captured not only the striking grizzly but also the male counterpart that joined in the scene.
This wildlife photography is not just a testament to Ken's ability to coexist with the wild but also his understanding and respect for these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.
With his subject just four meters away, Ken was able to portray a story of courtship, curiosity, and a serene meadow in the heart of Alberta's wilderness. “Grizzly Meadows” is a stunning reminder of the powerful and beautiful wildlife we coexist with, and the pivotal role it plays in our environment.
As Ken recounts, “I looked right at the ears to make sure that they were curious but not aggressive ears... I made my photograph and I said, 'Thank you so much'."
